BLOG #1My top five strengths are, Context, Deliberative, Analytical, Achiever, and Command.
I would say that the theme that describes me best would be Deliberative. My reason being is that I always think about my decisions before I make them. I know there are a lot of risks in any situation and I try to find those and figure out what the ways I can avoid them are. I always think about anything that could obstruct any of my progress that I am making. I also always make sure my decision won’t affect anyone else negatively. It’s definitely how I would describe myself. I use analytical the most because I like to look into what causes something. I look at every small thing that goes into making something happen. I like to look at something that has happened and analyze everything that caused it to happen. It may not be one of my more useful qualities, but I really do use it a lot. I spend a lot of my time analyzing situations. I anticipate using my Deliberative strength in college or my career, because of the reasons I listed in the first paragraph. It also has helped me get this far in life so I don’t want to fix something that isn’t broken. It also would help me get jobs and keep them later in life. When I took the test, my Achiever strength surprised me the most. I have never considered myself much of an achiever. I have never been the best at anything I do because I’m usually average. Some may consider me an achiever at guitar because I’m self-taught, but I’m actually not very great. Same with my ability to ride motorcycles. I’ve heard that I’m good for my age, but compared to everyone else, I’m pretty average. Blog #2 This week's assignments is titled "How to get a Job." In the assignment directions, it says to read an article also titled "How to Get a Job," and say how I interpret his statement "the world doesn't care anymore what you know; all it cares 'is what you can do with what you know.'" The way I interpret this is that you can know a million things and have knowledge on them, but if you don't know how to use those things you know in your everyday life, then no employer will care about what you know. Basically, if you can't use your knowledge, then it is useless to everyone else. It may be useful in your opinion, but not everyone else will feel the same.
The second part of the assignment asks if I agree that a formal education, aka. University Degree, is the best way to learn the skills you need to succeed, or if I believe you need more "real world" experience, or both. I was raised to believe that no amount of schooling can compare to actually doing the work, and so far in my 17 years of life, that is 100% true. In other words, I believe in real world experience. I've seen two people first hand that this applies to. They were both mechanics, one had gone to college to get certified to work on cars with no knowledge beforehand and the other had been working on cars his entire life and had received absolutely no schooling. They both ended up working in the same shop, but the person who had the schooling's work didn't even compare to the one who had no schooling. The difference was experience. The one with schooling had knowledge of cars and the parts, but he didn't know how to apply that because he hadn't worked on cars before. It happens all over the country and even the world. Just because someone has a degree, doesn't mean that they have ALL of the skills required for a specific job. The third part of this assignment asks what I would bring to an employer, what sets me apart, and what will make them want to hire me. One thing I will bring to an employer is reliability. No matter what has happened to me in the past, unless it was a severe medical issue, I showed up to work every day. I always put work first because I know it benefits me and my employer. What sets me apart is my ability to get work done. I always will find time to get any task assigned to me done and done right. I take great pride in my work and can always promise a job well done. What will make them want to hire me is the fact that I am great at learning on the fly and am good at hands on work. All throughout my life, I have been told that I am a fast learner and am good at working with my hands, which also could count as something that sets me apart. The final part of this assignment says "How important is it to research the company you are applying for and why? What are the benefits of completing research on a potential future employer?" To me, it is very important to research a company that you are applying for because it may reveal some things that you may not have known about the company, so you aren't getting yourself into something you don't want to be in. Some of the benefits of completing the research is that you can have knowledge of the company and the employer won't have to take time to inform you of that information. You may also find out what the jobs are and the skills required are so you can present those skills and do the jobs assigned to you. Volunteerism There are a few times I have volunteered in my life. At school, I am in band and we have a music contest every year. Our staff is all of the students in band and we volunteer. I have volunteered for this a few times and it has always been fun. I also have volunteered to work concessions for our class at sporting events. I volunteer whenever we need help.
Outside of class, I have volunteered in my community. I will sometimes scoop snow in people's driveways for them in the winter so they don't have to go outside and get cold. When there's no snow to scoop, I will mow people's lawns for them. I do this so people can enjoy their lives and not have to worry about doing work when they can be having fun. ArtifactsDeliberative

Young Leaders In The Workforce In my opinion, when employers say that young employees lack focus, I disagree. In my job I have to multitask all the time. Cutting meat, answering phone calls, and helping customers all at once is a lot of work, but I am able to do it. Young employees often have many things they have to focus on, like balancing work and school, so a lack of focus would be understandable, but not all of us are like that. I, for one, focus on what I am doing at my time of focus. This means that if I am at work, I focus on work and vice versa with school.
I do believe that young employees should strive to be leaders in the workplace, but they should still have respect for their older co-workers. They should strive to be the best at their job that they can be, but they shouldn't talk down on those who are older than them. They have a lot of potential and should realize this so they can use it. In high school, being a leader gives you the reins and lets you help make choices. For instance, I am the trumpet section leader in band, so I have to watch other players and give them pointers on improving their playing. Getting a head start on being a leader will give a person more motivation and drive to want to become a good leader in the future. Career Choice Impact My career choice is a motorcycle mechanic. This career field would affect my life greatly. First off, I'd be getting to do what I love for a job. I'd get to meet a lot of new people and see a lot of new technology. It'd give me the ability to learn about the advancements that we are making in terms of motorcycle technology and what improvements I could possibly make on motorcycles myself.
This job would open up my opportunities to meet a lot of people, talking to the bike owners, going to bike shows where I'd meet new vendors, and many other forms of people. It'd give me the ability to elaborate with people on ideas to improve motorcycles and other ways to fix things. my BlogsThis is where I will be publishing my blogs. |
